The Climate & Freedom International Coalition held an in-person workshop in Madrid, Spain on 25 May 2024 in lieu of the regularly scheduled online meeting facilitated by Tholos Foundation and the Grace Richardson Fund.
Thank you to all participants for your collective insights and policy suggestions for improving the Climate & Freedom Accord, and a big thanks to all our co-hosts for leading the workshop.
Local Partner, economist Diego Sanchez de la Cruz, of Instituto Juan de Mariana (IJM), did an outstanding job helping to organize the event, ably supported by co-hosts Rob Armstrong, of the Institute for Free Trade (IFT) in the UK, and Sebastian Stodolak, of the Warsaw Enterprise Institute (WEI) in Poland.
Lord Daniel Hannan, President of IFT, outlined the dangers of climate protectionism – and the benefits of a free market, free trade alternative – in the lead off presentation, hinting at the upcoming launch of a new IFT study. Irune Ariño, also of IJM, presented a primer on The Spanish Bubble - a brief history of how excessive subsidies resulted in highly negative impacts on the economy. Sebastian Stodolak also presented an overview of WEI’s 7 think-tank collaborative study on the energy sector in Central Europe, and country-specific barriers to private investment. All of these works will be finalized and posted within our website shortly.
The workshop included attendees from all over Europe, and featured an enthusiastic contingent from Students for Liberty, as well as policy veterans, scholars, authors, venture capitalists, entrepreneurs and professionals. We welcomed comments from Daniel Lacalle, Lorenzo Montanari of Tholos Foundation, Clara Camacho from Fundalib - organizer of the Atlas Network Europe Liberty Forum 2024, Alessio Cotroneo of Istituto Liberale, winner of the Shark Tank Competition at the Liberty Forum, and Piotr Palutkiewicz of WEI, as well as various members of the Climate and Freedom International Coalition.
We look forward to seeing you at our next online meeting, scheduled for 27 June 2024, 10:00-11:30 EDT. Please contact us to receive a link to register for the meeting.
